 Workshop on Transforming Mathematical Concept through GSP

 

Technology is essential in Teaching and learning. It is essential that teachers and students have regular access to technologies that support and advance mathematical sense making, reasoning, problem solving, and communication. Keeping the objective in mind, Mathematics Department organized a workshop on GSP (Geometer’s Sketchpad), a commercial interactive geometry software for exploring Euclidean geometryalgebracalculus, and other areas of mathematics on 14 September 2017. The GSP software helps the students to understand the geometrical concept by visualizing the construction, animation and other hardcore mathematical concepts.  If a figure (such as the pentadecagon) can be constructed with the compass and straightedge method, it can also be constructed in the program. The program allows transformations to create figures impossible to construct under the compass and straightedge rules (such as the regular nonagon). Learners’ can enjoy solving Mathematical concepts with the help of animation in GSP.

 

The demonstration of various Mathematical concepts such as slopegeometric transformations, and arithmetic on integers was given by Mrs Anupam Bansal. The workshop was attended by 12 teachers teaching Mathematics to classes VI to X.
